It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Score Coming on Pumpkin Shaped Vinyl

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!  The Emmy-nominated 1966 television special was the third special for Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts series and the second to be holiday-themed, after A Charlie Brown Christmas.  It was a huge ratings success and was so successful that CBS re-aired it every year through 2000, with ABC picking up the tradition after that.  Now, on September 17, 2021, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown soundtrack score will return on a new 45 RPM pressing on orange pumpkin-shaped vinyl.

On Halloween night, this beloved album will rise from vinyl collections the world over and bring audible presents to all the good girls and boys. Featuring the music of GRAMMY-winning composer/performer Vince Guaraldi, this album includes insightful liner notes by Derrick Bang, Peanuts historian and author of Vince Guaraldi at the Piano. It includes two of the most beloved tracks in the Guaraldi canon, “The Great Pumpkin Waltz” and “Linus and Lucy.”

The orange pumpkin vinyl presentation of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will be available on September 17, just in time for your October Halloween parties.  It’s housed in a clear bag, with a horizontal OBI-style strip on the bottom.  The strip folds out to feature the liner notes on the reverse side.

You can pre-order the It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Pumpkin Shaped Vinyl Album on Amazon and it will ship out on September 17, 2021

New Additions to the Comic Book Ad Archive!

If you didn’t already know, besides being your gracious host with the most here at Retro Ramblings and co-founder of The Retro Network, I also run ComicBookAdArchive.com! You can see the link in the menu bar at the top of this page if you’ve never noticed it before.

The Comic Book Ad Archive is where I am cataloging all of the great old comic book ads I can find. I’ve got a large stack of comics still waiting to have the ads scanned in and added to the archive, but over the last couple of days I’ve managed to update it with over 30 new additions…all from 1991! There’s a host of great ads in the batch, and I’m excited to share them with you. Check out a few of the highlights below…

You’ll have to go over to ComicBookAdArchive.com to see them in all of their full-size glory, and to check out the rest of the new additions. But it’s worth the time to not only check the new ones out but all of the ads that are showcased there. Go give them a look.

Three New Podcasts Featuring…Me!

Yesterday there was an overload of Retro Rambler goodness in the audio world as three new podcasts dropped that I was a part of. In case you don’t get enough of me here at Retro Ramblings, I thought I’d share those podcasts with you so you can listen along.

First up, as usual, I was riding shotgun with Jason from Rediscoverthe80s and my Retro Network partner for our weekly episode of the TRN Time Machine Podcast. In this latest episode, Jason and I took a trip back to the ’90s to talk about whatever ’90s things were on our minds. Included in the discussion was the story of my local cable company burning down in 1991 causing me to miss the UWF Beach Brawl PPV, tv shows from 1990 that were based on movies, TGIF lineups from through the years, our first cell phones, Stone Temple Pilots, Hypercolor clothing, Double Dip Crunch cereal, and more. You can give the show a listen below:

Then came our weekly episode of TRN After Hours, which is normally exclusive to our Network VIPs, but this week we decided to do a “free preview” for everyone. In this episode, I hit Jason with some “where were you when” questions about events of the ’90s, and we discussed where we were and what were doing, and how the events affected us. We talked about Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson, the debut of Jurassic Park, the OJ Simpson car chase, the Columbine shootings, and more. It was a deep dive into where, and who, we were in the ’90s and I think everyone would enjoy it. Give it a listen:

And last, but not least, I was Kevin’s guest on The Hot Tag, presented by The House Show podcast…presented by The Retro Network! Kevin had me on in celebration of two years of TRN and got my side of the story as to the creation of the Network, as well as my barbeque skills, my life traveling, my take on several other subjects, and we threw in a little wrestling talk as well. It was a fun interview that was my pleasure to be a part of. And like the first two shows, you can listen to this one below:

So, there’s that. If you’re into podcasts…check them out. You may find that you want to subscribe and continue listening week after week!

Weekend Edition for 05-23-21

Here’s this week’s collection of nostalgia-themed articles and stories from around the web for you to relax with this weekend.

  • And last but not least, something that gets me really excited. Carrying around an Igloo cooler in the summertime is for me like carrying around a cellphone is for most other folks. Igloo debuted a new retro mini cooler! Now I can finally replace mine that I’ve been carrying around for about 25 years.
